Looking to extend your practice?  How about challenging yourself to a 24 hour Sit-A-Thon!

SMCD is holding a Winter Solstice Sit-A-Thon as an End of Year Fundraising Event.  No one is required to attend for the entire 24 hours. You may sit for any length of time: an hour, two hours, four hours or more. Participating in the entire 24 hours may be just the challenge you would like to accept!

If you are interested in being present at the Sit-A-Thon, please press the register now button at the bottom of this page.  There is a way to mark a donation with your registration otherwise you can head to our Support the Sit-A-Thon page for all donations (which include a fun competition for teams raising funds!)

In addition, if you will be out of town or unable to join the Sit-a-Thon for other reasons, we invite you to support others in their participation with your monetary contribution, and in so doing support the Denver Center.

Team Competition: Details

Four teams will be competing to see who can raise the most in pledges toward the end of year fundraising campaign. At noon on Sunday, particpants who were present for the entire 24 hours will be eligible for a special gift. The team who raises the highest donation amount will also receive a gift for their team members.

Each team will consist of a Sunday morning Nyinthün team and members involved in a particular area of practice at the center. The four teams are:

Tiger - 1st Sunday Team, Societal Health and WellBeing,

Lion - 2nd Sunday Team, Heart of Recovery,

Garuda - 3rd Sunday Team, Children and Families,

Dragon - 4th Sunday Team, Vajrayana,

Sit-a-Thon schedule and other information

We will have 4 hour blocks of sitting and walking meditation practice. At the end of each 4 hour block, those who have been present for the entire period will be entered in a drawing for door prizes.

The Shambhala Shrine Room will be set up as a quiet sleeping area with cushions, pillows and sleeping bags for anyone who would like to rest during the sit-a-thon.

Dinner, breakfast and tea breaks will provide delicious sustenance to support us physically for the next block of sitting. Teachings from Denver members will occur every four hours to sustain us spiritually.
