The Buddha identified four main pilgrimage sites to his followers: where he was born, attained enlightment, began teaching, and died. The main reason for going to a stupa is to deepen our connection with teacher, dharma, sangha and practice.

The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya was built in honor of the great meditation master, author and artist, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche shortly after his death. It is located at Drala Mountain Center. Learn more about the Great Stupa and the history of stupas here.

Please join us for a day trip to Drala Mountain Center.

Carpooling: When registering, please let us know if you will drive and accept passenger(s), if you want a ride (plan to share fuel cost with driver), or will travel on your own. No dogs, please.

Lunch: Dining at DMC is always a culinary adventure with as much locally sourced, organic produce on the buffet as possible. $15/person payable at the door. You may also bring your own food.

Hiking: The hike from "downtown" to the stupa is relatively easy. To prepare for your visit, please wear comfortable shoes, bring sun protection and a water bottle. DMC is located at 8,000 feet so it is easy to become dehydrated. Also bring an extra jacket/sweater in case an afternoon mountain storm comes in.

Registration: This day trip is open to the public. A suggested donation to the Denver Center is $10. Registration online helps avoid the pen and paper contact involved in filling out emergency contact and release forms in person. When you register (below) you will be asked to list an emergency contact's name and phone number. You will also be asked to check a box indicating that you consent to this release form (releasing the Denver Shambhala Center from liability). Please register by the end of the day on Wednesday, June 5.
